Accessibility Statement

Our Commitment to Accessibility

At JOYN Health, we believe healthcare technology should be accessible to everyone, regardless of ability. We're committed to ensuring our digital platforms provide an equal experience for all users, including those who rely on assistive technologies.

Accessibility isn't something we add on top—it's built into our code from the ground up. We design with semantic HTML, proper ARIA labels, keyboard navigation, and sufficient color contrast as fundamental principles, not afterthoughts.

Standards & Conformance

JOYN Health is designed to conform with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities and are the internationally recognized standard for digital accessibility.

We're actively working toward full compliance and conduct regular audits to identify and address any gaps. We acknowledge that accessibility is an ongoing commitment that requires continuous improvement and learning.

Accessibility Features

Our platform includes the following accessibility features:

  • Keyboard Navigation: All functionality is accessible using only a keyboard, with visible focus indicators and logical tab order
  • Screen Reader Support: Proper semantic HTML structure, ARIA landmarks, and descriptive labels for all interactive elements
  • Skip Navigation: "Skip to content" links allow users to bypass repetitive navigation elements
  • Color Contrast: Text and interactive elements meet or exceed WCAG 4.5:1 contrast ratio requirements
  • Responsive Design: Content adapts to different screen sizes and supports browser zoom up to 200%
  • Descriptive Links: Link text clearly describes the destination or purpose
  • Form Accessibility: All form fields have proper labels and error messages
  • Alternative Text: Images include descriptive alt text for screen readers

Compatible Assistive Technologies

We test our platform with the following assistive technologies:

  • NVDA (NonVisual Desktop Access) screen reader on Windows
  • JAWS (Job Access With Speech) screen reader on Windows
  • VoiceOver screen reader on macOS and iOS
  • TalkBack screen reader on Android
  • Keyboard-only navigation on all platforms
  • Browser zoom and text resizing features

Our Approach: Building In, Not Bolting On

We do not use third-party accessibility overlay widgets. Here's why:

Research and advocacy from the disability community has shown that automated overlay widgets often interfere with the assistive technologies that disabled users actually rely on. Instead of helping, these tools can create barriers and provide a false sense of compliance.

We've chosen to invest in properly coded accessibility—using semantic HTML, ARIA attributes, keyboard navigation patterns, and testing with real screen readers. This approach takes more effort, but it's the right way to ensure genuine accessibility rather than a superficial checkbox.

Known Limitations & Ongoing Work

We're transparent about the fact that accessibility is a journey, not a destination. We conduct regular audits and prioritize accessibility improvements based on user impact and WCAG guidelines.

If you encounter any accessibility barriers while using our platform, please let us know. Your feedback helps us identify issues we may have missed and prioritize improvements that matter most to real users.
